High Altitudes and Speed in the Alps
I went to Switzerland together with McLaren to drive a few laps around the alps. We also had the opportunity to get acquainted with a Speedtail and Richard Mille watches. The trip up to the alps felt almost too cinematic to be real.
We had a 750S and a GTS. If you know cars, you know the Speedtail is in a category of its own, however, the Speedtail was safely back at the hotel. The cars handle the mountains quite well and the curved roads up the Alps are a blast.
The connection to Richard Mille felt completely natural. Those watches are essentially racing machines for the wrist, so seeing them alongside the carbon fiber of a McLaren cockpit just made sense. Both are obsessed with lightness and performance. To some, this is more or less mechanical excellence but the best part was the perspective from the top of the peaks.
There is something about being at that altitude, looking down at the road you just climbed that really puts things in perspective. I got the same feeling when I drove up Pikes Peak in Colorado. If you have been to either place, you know what I mean.
